To Da-Duh, in Memoriam: Analyzing Da-Duh

The short story, To Da-Duh, in Memoriam, is about a girl and her grandma. They meet for the first time, and in the following days they walk through fields of cane sugar and talk. Whenever Da-Duh speaks, acts, and interacts with people, she reveals something about herself. Also, the way she looks and her body language can give away some of her traits. An example of when she does this is when she says, "Yes, God is good." This could mean Da-Duh is religious. An additional example is whenever Da-Duh peers hard at her granddaughter. This means she is thinking, she is tough, and she is "judging" her granddaughter.

Whenever Da-Duh is talking with her granddaughter, she assumes she knows more than the girl. This means she is wise about most things, but not all. Whenever they talk about the Empire State Building, the granddaughter is correct. Da-Duh also dresses traditionally with a white dress. But, she wears black high tops with this dress. This could mean she is opinionated and wants to show her style. Finally, an example of Da-Duh showing something about her though her body language is whenever she is "moving swiftly towards us." This means she is determined for something. Overall, Da-Duh is a round character, but she is static.
